  • Is there a waiting period to get married?
    Notice is to be given at least 1 month before the wedding.
  • Where can we get married?
    This can be discussed with the celebrant.
  • Is same sex marriage legal?
    Same sex marriage has been made legal in Australia since 9 December 2017.
  • I am not an Australian citizen or resident – can I get married in Australia?
    Yes. There is no requirement for you to be a citizen and there is no minimum residency period.
  • We live overseas and want to come to Australia to get married. Is that possible?
    Yes. However, you have to check and make arrangements to sign the NOIM in your home country.
  • How long does the wedding ceremony last?
    Depends on what you want to include in your program when you meet with the celebrant.
  • How do I change my name after the marriage?
    Changing your name is not a legal requirement of marriage, however, if you want to change your name, you will need a marriage certificate issued from the Department of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

  • How many meetings are required before the wedding?
    The first meeting is where the Celebrant and couple get to know each other and discuss requirements. The meeting after that is very important for both the celebrant and the couple. Other meetings may be organised depending on the needs and requirements of the couple.
  • Can the Celebrant assist in writing the vows?
    The Celebrant can provide help in writing personalised vows, if required.
